What's your take on morality?
by Narkissos inas former jws we were part of a highly moralising religion.
we have experienced the disastrous consequences of it in terms of hypocrisy, judgementalism or pathologic guilt.
most of us have changed our "moral parameters" drastically, but how far have we gone in questioning morality itself?.

Life is complicated because deviance, perversion and lawlessness demand acceptance and the weak minded of the world acquiesce.

Morality should be a constant. If everyone held fast to the ideas expressed in the 10 commandments, what would be the harm? Whether they were written by man or God, adherance to their premises is a sure fire way to prevent undue strife in one's life.
The problem is that holding a sense of personal morality brings ridicule from any who by their own deviance must lower the moral bar to explain away their actions.
I am sickened by the current trend to apply an attitude of acceptance or understanding to all sorts of perversions and addictions. Shedding a cult mentality too often leads to abandoning all sense of morality. Freedom doesn't mean you can do whatever you like according to your won rules or morals. True morality benifits the greater segment of society. Selfish deviance is what has made the idea of morality a point of contention and argument.

Are you afraid to watch The Exorcist?

Sheila and I had an exorcist marathon this weekend. We rented all four of the movies. I found the newest of the series to be the best. It wasn't so much horror as intrigue and suspense. I found the overall theme of the movies to be faith lost and then found again.
When I was a JW we were forbidden to see the Exorcist and stories of demon attack were espoused to scare us into submisssion.
If you haven't seen them all, I recomend the original and the Exorcist the Beginning. Two and three were not very good.

Askew?
There?s omnipotence behind my eyes,
My omnipresence is my point of view.
You see, for me the sun does fall and rise.
All you are is all I make of you.
In my solitude none but I exist.
If not in sight of me there is no you.
A single being formed of earth and light.
All that is, is what I choose to do.
The universe is but my line of sight,
The panorama in my way.
You who co-star in my life,
Shrewd distractions to fill my day.
Is it avarice to believe that all,
That is revolves round me?
Or is the reality I hold fast to,
In fact just what you see?
Put simply nothing?s as it seems,
Just the slant we choose to view.
No there or then, only here and now.
Close your eyes and see there?s only you.
Most won?t see the truth I do,
They?ll never figure out the lie.
But I?ve accepted that I?m my own Deity,
And the creator of my own sky.

Editors' Note: LTC Tim Ryan is Commander, Task Force 2-12 Cavalry, First Cavalry Division in Iraq. He led troops into battle in Fallujah late last year and is now involved in security operations for the upcoming elections. He wrote the following during "down time" after the Fallujah operation. His views are his own.
Notice the disclaimer. "His views are his own." They won't even allow for the impression that they might believe what he said.
I've heard much the same from Anthony. His platoon is in Iraq and some of his buds have written to him. Sure the "Experts" among us know better, but thats the great thing about America, you're allowed to be delusional and talk out of your butt and its OK.

WoMD ... so where are they?
by Simon innow, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!
perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.
now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.
